This steel is only hardened by cold rolling. The modulus of elasticity, E , has a value of approximately 21 0 MPa, which cannot be increased by heat treatment.
In the condition +C, strip shall be delivered with a bright surface (2H), or a rough, matt surface
The following information shall be supplied by the purchaser at the time of enquiry and order:
a) the quantity to be delivered;
The products shall be free from internal defects that could impair their application to a significant extent. Tests appropriate for an assessment of the internal characteristics may be agreed upon at the time of enquiry and order.
Stainless spring steels Strips are classified as austenitic stainless steel. Due to their good balance of mechanical properties, they are the most widely used type of steel. They can be used in a variety of environments without being plated to prevent rust. In addition, as it is also possible to increase their hardness by rolling, they can be used as spring parts.
In annealed and lightly rolled materials, they exhibit a large degree of elongation, and can withstand complex processing. Springs are used in plenty of applications in the present-day world. Even so, only a few people have a nodding acquaintance with the brass tracks of spring manufacturing and the different qualities needed for various functions. While coiling steel into a spiral of desired length and diameter is the primary and center-most stage of spring fabrication, other treatments during and after the procedure determine the quality of the product that reaches the consumer.
Strip is usually supplied in coils. Thin strip may be wound on a supporting centre, made of steel, cardboard or other material, in order to avoid the collapse of the centre. Strip may also be supplied as a spool, in order to increase coil weight, whilst minimising coil outside diameter, in the latter case, any welds shall be clearly marked.
Alternatively, strip may be supplied in cut lengths. These may be in a box, or on a pallet, and perhaps strapped together in bundles.
Several coils, or bundles of cut lengths, may be assembled on a carrier.
Unless otherwise agreed at the time of enquiry and order, the choice of delivery form is left to the discretion of the manufacturer.
Unless otherwise agreed at the time of enquiry and order, cold-rolled strip for springs is delivered with the edges. By special agreement, strip can also be supplied with mill edges or with special edges, e.g. machined edges, deburred edges or edges dressed to produce a regular form, usually square or round.
Cold rolled narrow strip of thicknesses up to and including 3 mm in rolled widths fess than 600 mm made from the stainless steel grades. The steels are used in the conditions for the production of springs and spring parts that are exposed to corrosive effects and sometimes slightly increased temperatures.
S17700 stainless steel is a precipitation-hardening stainless steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products. S17700 is the UNS number for this material. 17-7 PH is the common industry name.
Stainless steel from the group of age-hardened PH with the highest content of Chromium - 17% and Nickel - 7% in relation to PH of grades 15-5 and 17-4. It has excellent strength properties, high hardness and elasticity, good corrosion resistance and resistance to high temperatures and deformation. In terms of chemical composition, the corrosion resistance equals that of AISI 301 / 1.4310 steel, in terms of mechanical properties it is a much better choice for responsible parts and components exposed to fatigue. In the annealed state, the steel has an austenitic structure, after heat treatment of ageing it turns into martensite, increasing its strength properties along with obtaining magnetic properties.
The material is used on valve parts, tanks, springs, spring washers, food knives, diaphragms, low and high temperature parts, heat exchangers, special fittings and installations, machine constructions and components. Steel is intended for the aerospace, petroleum, chemical and petrochemical industries, energy, food and cryogenic industry in the form of strips, wires, sheets and bars.
