ASTM A684 1075 Cold Rolled High Carbon Steel Strip

Steel grade 1075 is a carbon steel that is extremely popular when manufacturing blade products (knives, daggers and replicas of cold steel arms). It is made according to the ASTM A510/A510M, ASTM A713/A713M and SAE J403 standards and other regulatory documents. Classification: Structural high-carbon spring steel.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Manufacture
Condition:
1 The strip shall be furnished cold rolled spheroidized annealed, soft annealed, intermediate hardness, or full hard, as specified.
2 Intermediate hardness may be obtained by either rolling the strip after final annealing or by varying the annealing treatment, or both.
3 Pinch Pass一Spheroidized annealed and annealed material may be pinch rolled after the final anneal to improve flatness, uniformly oil, modify surface, obtain proper mechanical properties, and minimize stretcher strains if required by the purchaser.

High carbon steel is an ideal material for custom flat springs, custom clips, and custom sheet metal stampings. High Carbon Steel Strips combines ease of fabrication with good strength and surface finish, is valued for its strength properties and operates at significantly higher levels than the mild steel grades. High carbon steel strip can be finished to meet the needs of a wide range of products. Where tensile strength and hardness are required, High Carbon steels are the material of choice. High Carbon Steel Strips Grades : C60, C65, C70, C75, C85, HC-14, En 42 J, C-98, C-100, C-124, HC21 etc. We offer spring steel strip in various shapes and sizes according to your final uses. These have excellent hardens property and high yield strength. Clients can avail these at competitive prices.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Grain Size:
Unless otherwise specified, the steel strip shall be manufactured to a fine grain (austenitic and ferritic) practice.
Pearlite is the normal structure of cold rolled high- carbon strip unless it has had an intermediate anneal.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Decarburization:
1 When specified, the steel strip shall have a maximum permissible depth of complete plus partial decarburization of 0.001 in, [0.025 mm] or 1.5 % of the thickness of the strip, whichever is greater, except that strip less than 0.011 in. [0.279 mm] thick shall show no complete decarburization.
2 Annealed is mostly a spheroidized structure, but may contain some vestiges of pearlite.
3 Spheroidized annealed is essentially free of pearlite.
4 At least one specimen shall be taken froin each lot for microexami nation. The specimens shall be prepared for microscopic examination in accordance with Guide E3.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Finish
Surface—The strip shall be furnished with a No. 2 Regular Bright or No. 1 Matte (Dull) finish, as specified.
Oiling—The strip shall be furnished oiled or dry, as specified.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Edges
Edges—Cold-rolled carbon steel strip shall be supplied with one of the following edges as specified:
No. I—A prepared edge of a specified contour (round or square) that is produced when a very accurate width is required or when an edge condition suitable for electroplating is required, or both.
No. 2—A natural mill edge carried through the cold rolling from the hot-rolled strip without additional processing of the edge.
No. 3一An approximately square edge produced by slitting on which the burr is not eliminated. This is produced when the edge condition is not a critical requirement for the finished part. Normal coiling or piling does not provide a definite positioning of the slitting burr.
No. 4—An approximately rounded edge. This edge is produced when the width tolerance and edge condition are not as exacting as for No. 1 edges.
No. 5—An approximately square edge produced from slit edge material on which the burr is eliminated.
No. 6—An approximately square edge. This edge is produced when the width tolerance and edge condition are not as exacting as for No. I edges.
Skived Custom-shaped edges produced by mechanical edge shaving with special tooling.

1075 Cold Rolled Steel Strip Finish
Cold-rolled carbon steel strip shall be supplied with the following finishes.
1 Number 1 or Matte (Dull) 一Finish without luster, produced by rolling on rolls roughened by mechanical or chemical means. This finish is especially suitable for lacquer or paint adhesion, and is beneficial in aiding drawing operations by reducing the contact friction between the die and the strip.
2 Number 2 (Regular Bright) Finish—Finish produced by rolling on rolls having a moderately smooth finish. It is less suitable that No. 1 (matte) finish for cold forming and may be applicable for certain types of plating.

Carbon steels contain carbon as the chief alloying element. Residual elements such as copper, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, and aluminium are also present in traces. They also contain 1.2% of manganese and 0.4% of silicon. AISI 1075 carbon steel is more brittle than the lower carbon steels.

It is furnished in the following types as specified:
1 Soft spheroidized annealed high-carbon steel is intended for applications requiring maximum cold forming. It is normally produced to give the lowest maximum Rockwell hardness for each grade.

2 Soft annealed high-carbon steel is intended for application requiring moderate cold forming. It is produced to a maximum Rockwell hardness.

3 Intermediate hardness high-carbon steel is intended for applications where cold forming is slight or a stiff, springy product is needed, or both. It is produced to specified Rockwell hardness ranges, the maximum being higher than obtained for the annealed type.

4 Full hard high-carbon steel is intended for flat application. It is produced to minimum Rockwell hardness requirements, which vary with grade, microstructure and gauge. Full hard can be produced with either a pearlitic or spheroidized microstructure or a mixture of both. The minimum hardness should be established between the consumer and the producer.

cold-rolled high-carbon strip in coils or cut lengths is classified as product that is 0.3000 in. [7.6 mm] or less in thickness and over 1/2 to 23 15/16 in. [12.5 to 600 mm] in width, inclusive. Strip tolerance products may be available in widths wider than 23 15/16 in. (600 mm) by agreement between purchaser and supplier; however, such products are technically classified as cold-rolled sheet. The maximum of the specified carbon range is over 0.25 to 1.35 %, inclusive.
